Strength In The Face Of Adversity

by admin on May 29, 2011

speakingI’ve had to face a lot of adversity. Through it, I found out how strong I really am. Webster’s dictionary describes the word strength as: the quality or state of being strong; the capacity for exertion or endurance. I have come to understand that on this journey called life (?) you will need the kind of the strength that comes from within. I received an email some time ago; however it still rings true now.

It reads: “The road to success is not straight. There  is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, insurance called Faith, a driver called God, you will make it to  a place called Success.”

Life will always be filled with frustration, pain, loss, and the unpredictable actions of others. You cannot change or avoid that. What you can change; however, is the way you react to certain stressful, upsetting, or crisis situations. You may be thinking how do I do that?  I had to ask myself that same question. We have been given the power of choice. Choice to: 1) Turn to the Creator for our strength in the face of adversity 2) Trust in him, and never lean to your  own understanding 3) Surrender those things which seek to destroy our spirit for He is our shield and protector and 4) Change our focus and seek those things that are ahead. I must say; at times my faith and strength are challenged. However, allowing adversity to control me is not an option.

We wake up to adversity everyday; gas and food prices on the rise, natural disasters, high employment and the list can go on.  Oh yeah, how can I forget our own personal adversities!  How you choose to deal with it all will determine how you live your life. Life is a journey and each leg is different. You will have mountains to climb and adversities to face. But if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, insurance called Faith, a driver called God, you will make it to a place called VICTORY!

I’m just sayin’

Love you to life!

Sandra
