Not The Way You Think

by admin on April 25, 2011

A lot of what we do in life is based on tradition or the way things have always been done.  We usually take no thought of the daily routines or the time on our calendar.  As a matter of fact, we expect things to go along as they always have been without a second thought to whether or not it can be changed.  Take for example dinner; it usually consists of a salad, the main course and dessert.  We typically eat the salad first.  In the French culture, the salad is eaten last. According to the French the salad helps with the digestive track because it is roughage.  When you stop to think about what is in a salad, the ingredients (lettuce, spinach, carrots, etc.) do help to clear your digestive track.  So why do we eat our salad first? We were taught salad is the first course and it just became routine.

Even as parents, we must not let routine set in when it comes to our children. When my son was in elementary school, he acted out something terrible.  The school system told me he needed to be placed in a school for the mentally challenged.  I refused to accept this.  They did not know there was a major disruption in his family dynamic. This was the cause of his behavior. As his parent, it was my responsibility not to except the routine answer they gave me. I had the power to impact and change the routine. What about you?  What is it you have learned that you’ve never questioned and took for truth because it was stated as fact? I’m sure you’ve heard Paul Revere was the one who warned the colonies that the British were coming.  It was placed in your history book.  But is that really something that is true?  In actuality, it is false.  Paul Revere did not travel over 200 miles on horseback to warn the colonies the British were coming; he was in jail.

Ever wonder why people are bound to make the same mistakes or a person you know seems to experience the same problem over and over again?  It’s because they have not thought differently about their circumstance or situation and keep trying to solve a problem the way that always have.

The way you think shouldn’t be based on only what you heard and what you have been taught.  In order to be free and have success, you must release your mind from all the madness and myths you’ve been taught and begin to embrace the things around you from a different perspective.  The way you think determines how far you succeed and how free you become.  One writer says: “Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering… Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking.”  In other words, EVERYTHING IS NOT THE WAY YOU THINK!

I’m just sayin’

Love you to life!
